About Ian Harrison

 

Ian Harrison is a player of shawm, cornett, flageolet and historical bagpipes, specialising in improvised and composed music of the middle ages, renaissance and baroque, and historical folk music.  He is half of the duo Poul Høxbro/Ian Harrison and director of Ensemble Inventio. He is a member of several leading ensembles, such as Sequentia (dir. Benjamin Bagby), Hirundo Maris (dir. Arianna Savall and Petter Johansen) and Candens Lilium (dir. Norbert Rodenkirchen).  From 1993 to 2021 he was co-director of the medieval and renaissance wind ensemble Les haulz et les bas, and from 2012 to 2021 was co-director of The Early Folk Band.  He teaches shawm and alta capella at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, and historical improvisation at the Music Academies of Frankfurt and Weimar.
